The heart stopping moment when an apartment block in Liege in Belgium collapsed.

Incredibly the moment was caught on camera.

The building had been evacuated but even so the collapse injured 20 people who were taken to hospital and up to four more were believed to be  trapped in fallen masonry.

Neighbors heard an explosion just before 2 in the morning damaging several buildings in the area.

The fire brigade were dealing with a resulting fire when the five story building collapsed at around 7 a.m.

Now rescue workers are hoping to be able save anyone caught in the rubble.

[Didier Beer, Rescue Team Member]:

„Apparently, there are still four people in there. They are trying to rescue one of them, I heard the person shouting in the basement. They are in the process of getting her out, trying to find out where exactly she is in the building.“

Belgian media say the explosion appears to have been caused by a gas leak.

It’s been confirmed a gas leak was reported in the building late last week which was dealt with by the fire brigade at the time.
